Halfway to a Finish and a Giveaway

Got distracted.  Ran across a new to me video from Jenny Doan for a Disappearing pinwheel that becomes a whirligig block.  Had to try it, so now I have two finished blocks.
She made hers with the same background layer cake and another print layer cake.  I can see why the background needs to be the same.  Will probably make two more, sash them and use for the center of a baby quilt.  I've ordered a white layer cake.  Maybe I'll cut some of my many floral fabrics into 10" squares and try it Jenny's way.  Makes a lovely quilt and from those two layer cakes one get two quilts.  How neat is that! (as Jenny is always saying, lol)

My half way to a finish is the quilting on that isolette.
Trying out quilting lines on the diagonal with a little meandering FMQ.  Saw it on someone's blog - but can't find it again. Gesh!.

Now for the giveaway.
Sign up for my linky party and get a chance to win this book. A comment will give you a second chance.  US readers only.  For international readers have another goodie in mind - sorry the shipping for the book is just so much more.  Either way let me know what you're working on now and if you have a hot or mild summer coming soon. Applique Tuesday

I was able to get a copy of the guild photo of my itty bitty quilt #1.  Yeah!

It's appropriate that I'm posting today as it is Applique Tuesday at my house.  It's 8" x 10" and was the one given for our guild exchange.  Bit cooler today. Only 104.

Blessings!

-----------------------------Monday---------------------------------
Yesterday it was --------------------------------&gt
Today not much better  - 107, ugh.  I may have to scout out a second home to help me get through this.  Anyone want to shout out about their area that has 70-80 degree weather for the summer?

Not feeling too well today, must be the cumulative effect of so many hot days.  This is bad as its only the start of summer. Feel close to heat exhaustion, so not much sewing getting done even with the air on.

Did manage to make a yellow RSC block:

Off to replenish my cold drink and find my cooling neck scarf and wait out the heat of the day.
  --------------------------------------------------Sunday----------------------------------------------
First off, the stash report. I used .18 yd to make two RSC blocks, .04 yd for two leader and ender blocks, .25 yds for binding of St. Anne quilt,  .19 for two itty bitty quilts and gave away 1 yd of scraps. My new stash YTD total out is 55.04 yds

I finally got some time to sandwich my isolette quilt top.  I use my dining table to sandwich, and it always seemed as if we were eating, soon be eating, or DH coming in soon for a snack and I wouldn't have time.  So in the meantime I assembled the batting
and found the backing.  I assemble the batting by finding scraps of the same kind of batting, cut two straight edges where they will abut, and join them with fusible interfacing.  While ironing the back discovered (1) it was not long enough and (2) there was a visible crease line down the center of this piece.  So I cut it right on the line, sewed a 1/4" along the line. Voilá, the line is gone.  Still too short . Cut a piece off the side and added it to the top.  Then I discovered there are crease lines on the border in the front!  Well I"m not taking it apart.  I'll just use a fabric pencil to color over the lines - they're not that long as the line was in back.  Do you get the feeling I really want to use this fabric?  Lol.  These quilts have to block light.
Here it is sandwiched.

Have half the straight lines done so far. Off to finish the rest of those lines.

Hope you get to quilt today.  I'll be watching Father Brown and slow stitching hexagons this evening.  Blessings.

All quilted now:

Bound

Baby quilt ready to donate at next church quilt meeting:

----------------------------------------Friday-------------------------------------
Two small finishes.  One is a block for the RSC 2017 challenge and the other is an Itty Bitty Picture Perfect quilt (mine's not even close to perfect -lol). The back acts as a sleeve so it will be displayed on an acrylic stand as it is in the photo.

This is one of two I made. Not happy with the background for these flip-flops.  I couldn't find my lighter cloud fabric. Our theme was Summer. The other one is a vase - both required applique. The other I forgot to take a photo!  I'm hoping Mary who got it on the steal game will send me a pic.
I got a nice 4th of July one.  I'll put it on display soon.

My other finish is the last blue block for the RSC challenge:

I have 16 of 25 done now - again from Pat Sloan's Summer Solstice. Changed it up a bit by making those star blades from stitch and flip squares on a rectangle instead of using HSTs. Now have 16 of 25 done - again from Pat Sloan's Summer Solstice.   I'm linking to the usual parties.  See my tab under the header.

Blessings!

Some of This; Some of That

Destashing:  One back for isolette top, 2 RSC challenge blocks, 11 blocks to finish other baby quilt top = 1.3 yds out - giving me  53.38 yds YTD out of my stash.  I'm linking to quiltpaintcreate's Sunday Stash.  I'll be linking to a few other parties. See my tab under the header. Click on more.

Here are the RSC blocks (my BOMs Away for this week:

These are blocks Pat Sloan is sharing for her Summer Solstice she is sharing at I Love to Make Quilts site.  They're to the quilt top stage already - I'm behind.

Here is view from my front door to my DH's planting in the front of the house. Lol, we don't have grass.
The tall plant with the poofy flower heads is an Alluaudia procera from Madagascar. In fact several of the plantings there are from that country. People stop to take photos.  The one behind it is a Canary Island palm in our across the street neighbor's front yard. It got a recent hair cut. Personally, I'd have left all the leaves to give shade for this already hot summer. The three Washingtonia palms are also in their yard.  They must be near 100 ft. tall.

I hope you are having a nice quilty day with some slow stitching. I've prepped some more Bliss hexies to sew while I watch Father Brown tonight.  Blessings.

WIPs Be Gone

Finished that baby quilt!  My job is done with this top - now other St. Anne's members take over.

I found this nice photo of three of us (me, Mom and daughter Emily) at the retreat. Deanna was taking the photo. I hope I can find one of the four of us.

Isn't that a great quilt behind us?  Suits the area just right.  Temecula is known for its hot air balloons as well as the wine country.

BOMs Away

I've been making simple blocks from a book my mom gave me in the creating of another baby quilt top. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a BOM - lol. I'd like to get it done this week.

A couple got switched around, but I'm not changing them.  I'll just call this a serendipity top.

Hopefully, this week I will get to a real BOM.  Lord, I have enough of those around here.  I'll be attending some linky parties.  See my tab for them under the header.

I hope you get to quilt/sew today.  Blessings!

Some of This; Some of That

It's been a while since I've posted. Nothing wrong - just life was very busy in the last two weeks. In between events I manage a wee bit of sewing.

Being it's Sunday - have a some hand stitching to report.  I got back to my Bliss hexies.  Laying them out, I saw I had sewn one with the wrong side of the fabric out and prepped a couple wrong also, so it was back to the beginning on those. Got four done and now whip stitching together.
Four may not seem like a lot, however as you can see these have 2 - 3 pieces and curves, so they do take longer.  If you're wondering what Bliss looks like, visit Julia at the Hexie Blog  Bliss starts in the 2016 Jan/Feb issue - all are free.

I continue to destash by slowly working on my projects a few minutes a day.  I'm working on a new baby quilt top - that has used 0.63 yds. and I have 3.5 yds ready to donate to my guild for a grand total of 52.08 yds YTD.

I also kept quilting on a sandwiched baby quilt for St. Anne's
Most of this was walking foot stitching. The centers of the large blocks were done with FMQ.
The quilting doesn't show much on the front.
In the yard, cacti are still blooming.  Here's one of my favorite Opuntia:
The flower buds are small but showy.

Here's one open - measured around an inch  - inch and a half when open.
I love the color of these and when they are lighted up by the setting sun they shine like jewels.

Hope you get to sew today.
Blessings,
