Hexie Friday 11/1/13

It's November!  Wow, time is flying!!  I tried something new this past week.  I set my goal of one hexie a day, and it actually worked.  Here's the start of my 10th flower:

I may have to buy some more papers.  The ones I've used several times are getting a bit distorted and flimsy.  How often have you used them before you tossed them?  I'm curious.

How's your hexie project going?  Would love to see it.  All eye candy accepted - even ones you've finished.  All new to Billie and me.  Linky below.

Getting it Done in October

I knew my October was going to be way busy, so I set as goals just starting on my LE part 3 and my working on the UFO.
Well I did it - just barely, LOL.  Here's my UFO from 2009 finally sandwiched and basted.  So I did start toward a finish.  I've decided to make this into a coverlet as the front is kind of heavy and I had this great ducky flannel for the back.  Figured two flannels should be warm enough for a 40 x 44 panel.  Now I just have to figure out how to quilt it.

The other project of my two for this month is my Love Entwined.  After much looking at colors and hemming and hawing I decided on this combo:
It's not set in stone (or actually I should say fused down) yet.  I tried lighter combos and even four different fabrics in the circle, but kept coming back to this one.  But it's a start!

How did you do this month?  I'm setting small goals again as I have more company coming in November plus a birthday, Thanksgiving, and then an anniversary. So my goals for November will be to continue with the two above projects and hope to get closer to done with them.

Applique Tuesday!

I've had the kids an extra day, so a little behind - but what else is new. Anyway, I do have some applique to share with you.  Here's a peek at the quiltlet I'm putting together for our Guild's Holiday exchange.

It has most of the applique on it than just the strip of red fabric of last week.  I had to resize it.  LOL, my algebra teacher would be proud of me.

How are you doing on your project?  Would love to see your eye candy, applique or otherwise, a future quilt or even an old one - all new to me!  Linky below.

I'm linking over to Esther's WOW and Connie's Linky Tuesday. See you there!

On my Design Wall

Besides the quilt top I was given (you can read about it on my previous Sunday post), I have these squares on my design wall:
They are log cabin blocks I am working on trying to find a use for all the solid strips of fabric that were donated to St. Ann's.  I'm using Jean Wright's Log Cabin Trim Tool.  See a video here .  This lets you make log cabin blocks fast without cutting all those strips - great for scrappy log cabin.  The strips have to be at least 1 1/2" wide; otherwise you can use any width. Check it out. Have 4 more rows to go on these.

What's on your design wall?  I'm heading over to Judy's Patchwork Times and Lyn's BOMs Away to see what they're up to.

Stash on Design Wall

At last I have time to post a stash report.  While I didn't get much quilting done in the three weeks of getting ready for company and the company, I did try to squeeze in a few minutes a day - sometimes as much as 15 - more like 5 most days, so here is what I have to report:
Yards         For
.25             binding of a VA quilt.
3.50             of donated fabric to the guild
.25             to finish charity quilt squares
.13             for centers for same quilt
.34             for border for landscape quilt
.25             for back of same landscape
  .13             for binding the landscape
1.56              for Nadine's quilt top
.25             of scraps for Holiday quiltlet
.25             for backing of said quiltlet    giving me a grand total of

6.91 yards!   Woohoo! - not bad since my last stash report of 9/30/13.
Here are my numbers:
in 0.0 yds.; out 6.91 yds.
Stash in YTD: in 9.0 yds., out 107.08 yds.
Donated YTD: 51.26 yds
Net for 2013: out 104.99 yds

Now I'd like to humbly ask for your help.  A group I belong to has two yard sales twice a year to raise money for our local food pantry. One of the coordinators gave me a quilt top as they know I am a quilter - none of the other six are that was donated to the group. Anyway - here it is - measures around 72 by 82":

The back of the top is lined with flannel - looks like they added the flannel before they put the squares together - maybe to stabilize the squares (?).  Most of the fabric looks and feels like cotton - some maybe feed sacks.  My questions are:  Would you look at the following photos and guess what decade these are from?  Also I want to use these to put together a quilt from that decade so could you also suggest a quilt block to use.  Your comments will be greatly appreciated!

Fall Blogger's Quilt Festival!

Amy is hosting another Blogger's Quilt Festival.  This is one of my favorite online shows.  So many beautiful quilts - so many talented quilters.  Mine is so beginner compared to the beauties you will see, however I feel it is important that we participate, so I'm entering the quilt I quilted for my DIL from all her Ralph's T-Shirts.  I used the 20" blocks of the quilt to practice during SewCalGal's  2012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge .  That was a great project - learned so much!

Without further ado -

Measured 80" by 100".  Each block was quilted with a different pattern.

Now I'm off to see all those gorgeous quilts at Amy's.  Button on sidebar and below.

It's a Finish!

My SIL, Arlene, was here for two weeks.  Not a whole lot of quilting was done - too busy visiting and hanging out together.  But we did manage to make a quilt for my niece, her granddaughter, Nadine.  We did the fast (about 6 hours) tube quilt method - from picking fabric to assembling it, to done.  I didn't have a flannel large enough for the backing,  so off we went to Jo-Ann's .  Arlene found a darling kitty fabric to use for it.  Nadine loves kitty, so it was perfect.  We bound it in a nice light purple. Those are two of her favorite colors - pink and purple.

She nine year's old, so this 42 by 56" lap quilt should work for a while. I'm linking to Amanda Jean's Finish it Up Friday. Do go and see all the fun, beautiful, and amazing things there.

Hexie Friday Again!

Where did the week go?  Life is flashing by, but I actually got some hexies made.  Here is my third block for my hexie project:
It's laid out but not stitched yet.  And I have 7 of the next flower prepped - woohoo!  I've only made 178 hexies - feels like a lot - LOL.  I know some of you have made a gazillion more! Won't you share your eye candy.  Even if it isn't hexies - Billie and I would love to see it.  Linky below.  Closes Halloween, Midnight.

Applique Tuesday is back

Had a wonderful visit from my sister-in-law, Arlene, but now she's home and I have gotten back to quilting.  Not back to LE yet because I have to make a quiltlet for our Guild's Holiday Exchange.  Here's what I've done so far - bet you can guess what I'm making:
It will all be applique except for the border.  What are you working on, applique or otherwise?  Please link and share your eye candy to help me get back in the quilting groove.

I'm linking to Esther's WOW and Connie's Linky Party Tuesday. Go on over and see the lovelies they have there.

A bit of Hexie Friday

...a tiny bit that is. I added three 1/2" hexies to my stylized morning glory flower.
Back to interacting with our guest.  Go on over to Billie's for the Hexie party.  I'll try to get back to the computer and see your lovely eye candy.  Have a quilty day!

What is the name of this quilt?

10/22 - Thanks to all who contacted me or sent a private email about this quilt.  I saw it on Heather's Happy Appliquer blog.  It's called Tuella and Friends.  I may have to make it - it's so totally cute.

Hexie Friday is

Welcome Friday this week at our house.  All the cleaning and prepping is done and our house guest is here!  Now for the entertaining part which is always fun. Above is my DH's latest pineapple ready for harvest.  How appropriate it is ready to share as the pineapple is the symbol of hospitality. Alas, not one moment to make a hexie or quilty things.  Hope to be back to LE after the 22nd.

We had a scary event last night.  We were eating dinner at around 6:30 when all of a sudden I hear all this fluttering coming from the living room.  I peaked in to see if I was hearing things.  But I wasn't!  In the fireplace were about 20 -30 frantic birds behind the mesh screen.  They had come down the chimney.  At first I thought they were bats as some were clinging to the mesh and had their wings spread and looked the same shape. But then sense kicked in - bats would be flying out of chimneys not into them at that time of day.  Turns out they were Chimney Swifts (they looked just like them - but had black top feathers and black beaks).
We put out all the lights, opened the patio door and Frank opened the mesh.  What chaos.  A few flew out but a lot were disoriented.  We finally got them out and turned on the kitchen lights and found more perched in the kitchen - all over.  Took us about another 20 minutes to get them all out.  Just when we'd think all were out - we'd spot another one.  Then it was time to clean up all the bird poop they left behind. Ugh!  No one was hungry after that, but wine was consumed a plenty.

Off for a walk at the park this AM.  Hope you have some Hexie Friday fun to share at Billie's! Closes Thursday, the 17th, at midnight.

Taking a Blog Break

Out of State company is coming and we have to get ready, so I'm taking a blog break. I'll be lurking and may pop in to post a photo once in a while, but that's about all.  Applique Tuesday will return when I do on the 22nd.  And Billie at BillieBee's Blog will be gathering eye candy on Hexie Fridays. She'd love to see your project.

Blessings to you all!

There's something odd in this photo - at least to Southern Californians.  There are clouds in the sky.  We're use to endless blue skies with nary a cloud, and here the scene from our front patio shows a view filled with them. Don't tell me the weather isn't changing.

SAHRR Round 5 and 6

Ready to show rounds 5 and 6. Actually, the prompt for 5 was make 4 of something. So I chose four patch, and actually since that made my q...
